About this book

The four fables included in this book are taken from Aesop's Fables. Fables tell a story through animals, plants and objects that speak. Every story has an underlying message or moral. They also present brilliant snippets of wisdom and lessons through extremely enjoyable short stories. 'The boy who cried wolf', conveys the message that we should not lie, while 'The greedy dog' teaches us that greed can make us blind. 'Country mouse, City mouse' shows that it's much better to eat in peace than eat lavish meals. 'The Ant and the Grasshopper' conveys that we should work in the present to enjoy the future. Unlike fairy tales, Aesop's Fables do not have happy endings, mainly because they convey the consequences of doing wrong.

About the author

Aesop, a slave in Ancient Greek, was a wise man. One day, Aesop's master decided to go on a journey and ordered his servants to carry one bag each. So all the servants chose bags which seemed light and easy to carry, but Aesop chose the heaviest bag with lots of food in it. All his fellow servants mocked him. However, a few days later, they began to envy him. His bag gradually became lighter, as the food was eaten up along the way. And so he reached the destination with an empty bag. Aesop had foresight and wisdom, which can be easily seen in Aesop's Fables. In this book, four of his fun and easy-to-read fables are included .
