About the author

Anjana Appachana was educated at Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya, Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Pennsylvania State University. Her first book, Incantations and Other Stories, was published in England, India and the United States, and has also been translated into German. Appachana is a recipient of the O. Henry Festival prize and a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship. She was visiting professor at Arizona State University from 1998–99 and is visiting professor there once more for the year 2006–07.
