About the author

Vishwanath S. Narvane was born in Allahabad. He did his Ph.D. from Allahabad University and was on its faculty for two decades. Later he went on lecture tours in many countries and was a visiting professor at several colleges and universities in the USA. Besides philosophy and religion, he taught courses in Indian history, art and literature. He has published more than a dozen books including Modern Indian Thought, The Elephant and the Lotus (a collection of essays with a highly appreciative Foreword by Professor A.L. Basham) and monographs on Rabindranath Tagore, Anand Coomaraswamy, Munshi Premchand, Sarojini Naidu and Sarat Chandra Chatterji.
