About the author
Manohar Malgonkar, a retired colonel, is a veteran fictionalist of Indian writing in English, and is renowned for his entertaining style. Distant Drum (1960), which first brought him recognition, is an engaging story of army life. His other popular works are Combat of Shadows (1962), The Princess (1963), A Bend in the Ganges (1962), The Princess (1963), The Devil’s Wind (1972), and The Spy in Amber, the latter being a competent spy thriller.
