About this book

The rich heritage of Indian miniature painting has long been the delight of collectors, art historians and Indophiles. This book introduces the generally interested, but diffident, reader to the world of Indian miniatures.
It journeys into the evolution, development and decline of the schools of Indian miniature painting. The select masterpieces represented here, from collections the world over, allow the viewer to savour the genius of the painters. Of special interest is the context, portrayed through contemporary literature and chronicles which throw light on the lives and times of these master artists.
